His Divine Shadow asked:

Normally, it is up to the press to dig out all the relevant information on a presidential candidates voting record, associations, policy positions, and past accomplishments/scandals. However, in light of the recent and unprecedented FAILURE of the mainstream media to give Barack Obama even the most basic amount of scrutiny, isn’t it time for the people to take matters into their own hands?

The solution is simple – whenever a body wants to apply for a job at the Pentagon, they have to undergo a background check courtesy of the federal government where family members and acquaintences of the applicant are interviewed, financial records are checked, and their public records scrutinized. I think it is only fair that a similar process be run by an independent board or committee for each presidential candidate and the results published for the entire country to see all at the same time before any voting takes place.

This way, voters will have full disclosure of each candidate via an objective and consistent process of measurement and it will be available to every American prior to any voting taking place. I believe it is certainly a much better way of doing things than the sloppy and corrupt system we have now where we depend on a biased media system and independent research on the part of each voter (some of whom think blogs and chain e-mails are legitimate sources of information) to make this process work.
