How long does a background check for a medical records clerk usually take?
Filed Under Health Care | 1 Comment
I was recently offered a position at a local hospital as a medical records clerk, I went in and took my drug test and passed, and had a TB test done, which I’ve already had checked and cleared, I’ve even filled out my direct deposit info and W4 and everything.
HR says they are just waiting on my background check to come back? I would have thought this would have been one of the first things they did?
How long do these checks usually take to come back?

If had an arrest a little over 4 years ago for public lewdness. (Got caught having sex in public) Annnyway….I served probation for it and was given deferred adjudication. I finished the terms of the probation and the case was dismissed and I didn’t receive a conviction.
However, this still shows up on my background check that I was arrested, and for public lewdness, and it also states that it was dismissed on deferred adjudication. I’ve tried to do a record of non-disclosure, but I have a 5 year wait time and I haven’t met the wait time yet.
My problem is, I graduate from college this year. I’m already doing clinical rotations in a hospital and the issue has already come up once. Granted the guy didn’t really READ the background check, he just noticed something was on it, and just assumed I had a conviction. I had to go into his office and explain everything.
Im worried this will affect my future working in the medical field. If it’s NOT a conviction, what are my chances that anyone is going to actually notice this, and HIRE me without just noticing my background check has something on it, and throw my resume in the garbage without even a second glance?
